Everything you need to know before your consultation with Mr Kumar, including what to expect, fees, and how payment works. Full transparency, no surprises.
Your first appointment is an unhurried conversation about your symptoms and what you want to get back to.
Mr Kumar will discuss your symptoms and history, review any imaging you bring or have arranged, and examine the affected joint. From there he explains the likely diagnosis and a plan tailored to you, in plain language, with time for your questions.
Non-surgical options are always explored first. You are not a procedure, you are a person, and you will leave with a clear understanding of your options and the next steps.
Clear, fixed fees for self-paying patients.
| Consultation | Fee |
|---|---|
| Initial consultation | £250 |
| Follow-up consultation | On request |
The initial consultation fee applies at Spire Manchester and The Alexandra Hospital. These are the surgeon's fees only. Hospital and test charges are billed separately by the hospital.
Sometimes imaging or blood tests are needed to reach a clear diagnosis. These are charged separately by the hospital, not by Mr Kumar.
| Test | Cost |
|---|---|
| X-ray | Charged by the hospital, on request |
| MRI / CT | Charged by the hospital, on request |
| Injections | Mr Kumar's administration fee plus the hospital's drug charge, on request |
If you proceed with a same-day test, you are responsible for the cost unless your insurer has authorised it in advance.
Mr Kumar is recognised by the major UK private medical insurers.
Please contact your insurer before your consultation to check your cover, reimbursement limits, and whether pre-authorisation is required. They will usually give you an authorisation code to bring to your appointment.
You remain responsible for any shortfall that your policy does not cover.
If and when surgery is recommended, your costs are confirmed in writing. A formal quote is provided before you decide to proceed, so you can make your decision with the full picture in front of you.
See the typical cost and what is included →A written quote always comes before any commitment. You will never be asked to decide on surgery without knowing the cost first.
You can compare independent quality data on private treatment through the Private Healthcare Information Network. It publishes consultant and hospital information to help you make an informed choice.
